As we journey through life, we all experience stressful situations and challenges; these could be family related, workplace stress, friendships, relationships along with unexpected events and crisis. Resilience is our ability to adapt to adversity, overcome obstacles and bring ourselves back into balance.

We have four aspects to our being: Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual. These four aspects are constantly flowing with our energy bodies, when they are in balance, we are happy, healthy and whole. Emotional resilience allows us to cope with major and minor life changes, helping us “bounce back” with the ability to survive and to function optimally.
How do we cultivate emotional resilience?

The answer to this will be different each person as we have all had unique life experiences. We start by being kind and gentle with ourselves; less self-criticism and more positive self-talk!

We are all walking miracles on this earth, radical self-care is very important as we only have one body and if our physical foundation is strong, it is easier to ride the waves of stress and emotion.

Our mental outlook affects our emotions, mood and energy levels. A positive outlook raises our vibrations and helps the flow of healthy energy in all aspects of our being. Strong and supportive relationships help us cope with life. Be discerning, surround yourself with positive loving people.

Immerse yourself in things that bring you joy such as nature, flowers, plants and animals or creativity, using your passion with arts and hobbies that take you out of your thinking mind.

Self-Awareness is key; knowing how you feel and how it is affecting you is the beginning to developing coping strategies for regulating your emotions. We can practise this meditation, listening to the silence and looking inward.
Most importantly don’t isolate yourself – reach out for help when you feel overwhelmed and need support. Asking for help is not a weakness, it is a strength.
